Burbman is right. I have a Propride P3 hitch and no longer worry about tongue weight as it relates to sway. The Propride and Hensley are designed to prevent sway from happening in the first place. The only thing you should have to worry about with the tongue weight is for your payload totals. If you are over payload by a little, don't sweat it. The truck won't break because you're 100 pounds over. The truck will handle it fine but don't go WAY over. That's when you could have trouble. I found that my half ton just wasn't adequate in that area. It really is amazing how much stuff you bring with you and the weight is deceiving. I was always over payload by several hundred pounds so I traded in the 1/2 ton I had for a 3/4 ton and now have no issues. I know it's a tough pill to swallow money wise but I figured I would trade up while my 1/2 ton still had really good value. Your situation is likely different so do whatever you think is the best and most of all, enjoy the heck out of your camping trips!
