I meant at the corner hardware store. ANYTHING can be found online. Go searching for one without the internet.

When I looked a few months ago, the local hardware store had three in stock. Then I went there, and they had two. (Note to whomever plumbed the washing machine and decided to put the faucets ten feet apart: YOU ARE AN IDIOT!)

Lowes, Menards, Home Depot, and even the local Farm & Fleet all carry them in both male and female on the shelf.

Yup double male adapters are around, but even a 3/4 " (Outside thread) to hose should work if it's brass.. might not if it's iron. Done it both ways.

Having spent about 45 years in quality control and inspection of mechanical products, I can assure you that Murphy is alive and well. Anything that CAN go wrong, WILL. Sooner or later. No matter how much time and money you spend on any type of quality control/assurance program, you can only reduce the error rate. You cannot make it zero. The problem the OP shows is amusing, unusual, and makes the product unusable. Luckily, no one will die because of it, and it is easily remedied by repair or replacement.
