Queen Mattress

We feel we need a new mattress and thought I would ask for info here.
This going into a mattress store is a "wonderful" experience.

We want a queen size, 10 inch mattress and not spend a fortune as we do not full time.

We have the forerunner of Sleep Number at home and it has held up great for nearly 20 years.

Been told that memory foam is a "warm" sleep and don't want / need that.

Open to all suggestions and comments - will appreciate them all.

Thanks.
  • We bought a small queen mattress from Camping World. It was about $350 and is extremely comfortable.
  • you are almost always better off purchasing a mattress from a small local manufacturer directly than ordering a "brand name" mattress. Just google "mattress manufacturers your area" and you should find some easily. You can usually find one to order exactly what you want and for a lot less. Also look at www.thematressunderground.com for reviews companies and different kinds. I discovered this nifty little trick because we have an antique bed with an odd size. I would never buy a mattress from a big retailer again.
  • Second the recommendation of Amazon. We spent around $200 on a memory foam queen and it's been great. I can't say whether it would hold up in a home for every night use, but in the camper it's awesome and very comfortable.

Mattress stores are horrible in terms of markups. There's one on every corner because of the profit margins involved, although I think people are figuring that out and those days will come to an end soon.
  • Lauren, we went to Sams club and tried a nice Sealy Posterpedic for about $325.00. rolled it up,tied it tight and into the rear bedroom it went directly on top of the so called mattress that came with our coach. We put a queen size electric heated mattress pad on it for cold nights also at Sams about $70.00.Shop the club stores as some have the mattresses on display to try out. good luck. OLICAN
  • Go to your local library and ask for the most recent Consumer Reports magazine where they rate mattresses. You can read it on site or copy the article and tables to take with you.
