Questions about towing CRV's/Jeep Liberty

We saw a super nice used CRV on the lot while checking out a JGC I was interested in buying for a toad. The JGC was ruled out but the CRV was very nice and the wife liked it. I know they have a 65 MPH tow restriction. Has any CRV owners pulled them faster than 65 and/or had tranny problems? Interested in any comments regarding towing Liberty's too.
Thanks

  • Thanks for the info everyone. My old jeep toad has 280000 on it and towed 60000 living through five teenagers. I favor the jeep but wife likes the CRV. I normally don't get in a big hurry but I like the safety net and my motor home seems to have a sweet spot at 69 on the flat interstates.
  • We absolutely loved our '04 Jeep Liberty. It towed beautifully, was very comfortable for 4 people, had good storage and gave us endless enjoyment in the boonies. We easily kept up in 4-wheeling rides with the Wranglers. We had absolutely no problems with it except for normal maintenance and tires. We sold it after 10 years and 185,000 miles and it still was perfect. We really miss it.
  • My CR-V mostly 60-65 but when up to 70 briefly, no issues.

we tow a 2010 Liberty with zero problems. Jeeps are very EZ to connect/disconnect and unlike some other toads there are no time/speed/distance restrictions. we left Chicago on March 5th arriving in Phoenix on March 14th. during that time the Jeep was never disconnected and was towed at 55 to 70 mph. transfer case in neutral, transmission to park. steering wheel does not lock so no need to leave key in the ignition.
  • No CRV, but our Terrain also has a 65mph limit. I typically stay under 65 while cruising, but have ventured over that mark a few times...just not for an extended time.

I think that limit is not a set threshold but rather one that gives some leeway.

But I'm with others....really no need to drive a mh/toad faster than that.

  • We have towed our 2004 Libbie over 80,000 miles in the last 10 years with no problems whatsoever and no speed limitations though we rarely go above 65 MPH as we mosey along from one spot to the next.
  • Towed our 2003 CRV for 9 years, now tow our 2014 CRV. Mostly under 65mph. Wife is sure to let me know when I get over 65mph! Occasionally have bumped over 65 to 68-70 for a few moments when she wasn't looking.
    No problems so far.
  • No problem with mine. Towed 80,000 miles.
I drive about 60-62 with an occasional downhill at 75.
No need to be in a big hurry.
  • We had a 09 CR-V and now a 14 with no problems. We have went over 65mph for a short distance like going down a hill, but usually not in that big of hurry! No problems with either car.
    Good Luck
