Quick connect LP fitting won't work with standard gas grill?

My FW has a quick connect LP fitting for attaching a grill etc. I have a nice grill and a camp chef LP fire pit. Both can be attached directly to a bottle. I thought I would try getting the quick connect hose that I could run either of these. According to my local RV shop, it can't be done. I was told that the quick connect fittings are low pressure and my grill and fire pit require high pressure and so there is no way to connect them. Is that right? Apparently there is a "special" grill that hooks to the quick connect?

I have a Weber BBQ with it's own regulator and I use the low pressure side of the propane from the RV with the quick connect. Works just fine.

  • Most standard gas grills must be connected BEFORE the LP pressure regulator on the RV.

I found a connector for my Blackstone grill on Amazon, with quick disconnect hose. Works great. I would chack if they have one for yours, if not amazon the google.

I looked, I found, this clicky

If I understand correctly (and that's giving more credit here than we should) I can take the current hose with regulator off the grill and/or fire pit, and attach this hose instead. Keeping the old hose of course and swap back if connecting directly to a small tank. Do I have that right?

Yes that is the general idea.

  • He is correct. Some grills can be converted with a kit that replaces the control assembly. Check with your grills manufacturer.
  • You need to remove the regulators from the grill and firepit as the quick connect on the RV is being regulated by the rigs regulator. But, you will need to put them back on if you wish to use them with a stand alone propane cylinder.
