RAM 2014 Dually Tire Rotation

The Owner's Manual says to rotate tires at oil change but it doesn't show which tire to move to which location.

The first question is: Which tire is moved to where?

The next questions are: How does the truck tire pressure monitoring system know that the tires have been rotated? And what needs to be done, if anything, to update the monitoring system?
  • My questions to you are:

    1) Does your truck have a tire pressure reporting system and do you need to do some special maneuver to syn the new tire position to the truck computer (65 vs 80 PSI)?

I do not have a pressure monitoring system so don't know about syncing one.

    2) Can you physically turn the outside dually around and mount it on a front wheel?

My truck is a 2006 with all steel wheels. Yes, I can turn the wheels around. I usually clean them well and recoat with black epoxy spray paint from Lowes. I also put antiseize compound on the mounting surfaces. The wheels are hub centric which means they can be real hard to get off if not careful.

    3) Do the chromed wheel inserts just snap ON and OFF?

Mine do. The lug wrench tool has a "hook" that fits in a notch on the center piece. I only use the center chrome hub cover on mine. The larger covers make checking the tire pressure more difficult.

If your friends truck has different type wheels my comments may not apply.

This is for my friend's truck. I presently own a 3/4 ton truck but I am planning on buying a dually and will have the same issues. By the way, the Cummins diesel is as quiet as my Duramax. I am very impressed.

    Thank you,

Just did mine today. Man, those steel wheels are heavy!

For no particular reason I do one side then the other. I move the front to the inside rear. The outside rear goes to the front and the one that was on the inside rear goes to the outside rear.

    I leave the spare alone.

Thank you for the reply. I believe in rotation also because then the front and rear tires end up wearing the same amount.

Regarding external tire monitor, if you move a wheel you have to remove the tire sensor and screw it back on on the same location. RIght Front tire sensor must stay on RF. etc.

Tpms system is inside the rim on most newer rigs. Theres a way to relearn position of each tire.

  • As anal as I am about maintenance on our trucks and cars, one thing I've never done is rotate the tires on our duallies.

Happy camping!!! See y'all down the road!!!:)

  • I cannot rotate due to having aluminum rims too. I did have steel air valves installed on the inner rear wheels. Easy to air up prior to hauling the rv.
  • I have polished aluminium rims, and don't want to dismount the tires, so I only rotate left to right and vice versa.
  • I've been towing with dualies for 20+ years, never have rotated tires. Of course I've always had aluminum wheels and they would have required dismount in order to rotate.
I use quality tires and get around 40k on front and 60k on rears.
