Gosh, I thought all lanes of the road were built to drive on. Did not realize you had to be "assigned" a specific lane. I have been passed on the left and on the right. Especially when on a 3 lane hwy. I usually stay in the middle lane at the posted speed limit. That way, when someone wants to merge onto the road, I do not interfere. Until laws are passed requiring people to stay right except passing, you are p***ing in the wind giving advise. :S
In VA also, there are laws on the books about using the left lane for anything but passing. Georgia is trying to pass another law now that augments the existing one.
Unfortunately, it seems that anymore, the right lane is for passing based on traffic flow I've seen. There was a time when the left lane was used for overtaking slower vehicles, as it should be, but it seems no one pays attention anymore to someone coming up behind them. Whether they are exceeding the speed limit or not does not matter. Left lane drivers enhance the possibility for road rage, and create a dangerous situation for the rest of us. I remember well when I got my license the rule was "Keep Right Except To Pass" and was instructed that on a multi-lane road the "far left" lane was for passing only.
