Don't know which way you went or if you have completely decided yet but I would just add a transmission cooler and live with it if the only problem you were having was high RPMs when going uphill. That just means that your engine is giving you all the power it can. Dropping the rear gears to 4.10:1 would give you an all around better towing experience but probably wouldn't increase your top speed any.
