The bottom line is a gear change does not make horsepower. Sometime a gear change can put the engine in a better RPM band when it's between two gears............but sometimes it might make it worse also.
What I'm trying to tell you is if you want to go up a hill faster, a gear change won't make it any better. If it does, it will only make it a few seconds faster. If you want to go up the hill a lot faster then you need more horsepower.
:S i can tell you from personal experience that a gear change will make a noticeable improvement in towing ability. And yes you can pull a load up a hill faster with the proper gearing for the weight!
