Rear camera prep

If I have the rear camera prep for the curtain camera, where is the best place to get it and how hard to install

  • The price of them has REALLY came down! Mine was 500.00 when I got my trailer. IT has been a great add on to my rig. One thing I did was to make sure it was wired to the tail lights. Mine was originally wired to the reverse lights so only came on when in reverse. That was easily fixed in the Pigtail J box

  • Since you have the Furrion prep, I'd go with that. As far as plugging it in, the connections should already be there, behind the cover plate.

When getting the camera, I'd go with the FOS48. It is the newer of the two Furrion cameras and has better range, so it has fewer dropouts. You probably will still experience some drops if you use the camera while driving. You will drive through areas that have interference. I don't ever notice this while stopped or parking.

I purchased mine off of Amazon. Best price with Prime shipping for me. Surprisingly, the best price was for the unit that included the mount which you already have on the trailer. So, you'll end up with an extra mount.

I hardwired the power in my truck for the screen. I mount the video screen to my rearview mirror, off to the side. This way it doesn't block the windshield. I can't use that mirror for anything anyway when towing.

You will have to see if your camera is wired to the running lights or always on. If they wired it to the battery, you'll probably want to install a switch or move the power feed to the running lights so that you can control the power drain.

    Cheers

I'm also unsure what a curtain camera is....

i've used Rear View Safety and it works really well
  • I bought a Furrion back up camera system from my RV dealer. The TT I bought was already prepped for the camera, so all you have to do is plug the camera into the pre-installed mount on the trailer and you're done. Took maybe 10 minutes because the system is wireless. I paid $400 for this thing and I was never very happy with it. Screen is small, resolution wasn't great. Looking back, I wouldn't do it again.
