Recommendations for outdoor rug?

I am getting sick of cleaning my cheap camp rugs from costco. They are filthy and gross at the end of each trip. Can anyone recommend a nice camp rug that is not too pricey? Something easy to wash or rinse after each use? Please let me know where you purchased as well. We have a Camping World nearby and that's it. If I don't buy it there I'm looking to buy online.

Thanks!!
  • For outdoor use you need something really well made to withstand the uneven ground.

The best (by far) outdoor rug I've used is a pretty expensive indoor 3x6 carpet I think I got at WM. It's the usual indoor area rug with "jute" backing.. and pretty heavy. Around $150. And cleaning is just shaking it.

If you want something to last more than a year, that's what I'd do...and they look really good too!
  • Go to J & J Sunshades. At www.rvmat.com...you will pay less than $150 and never have to replace it again...our rug is 8 years old and still looks new. Lifetime guarantee too!

We bought this from Amazon. The sand goes right thru it. Shake it & put it away.
Sorry, my ipad won't let me make a link.
  • We bought an outdoor rug at Wal-Mart to use at the Stagecoach music festival near Palm Springs. Since then we put it out on our cement patio from June to October and it cleans up nice. I just use car wash detergent and a little mildew remover for any spots that regularly get wet.
  • I have one of those plastic weave ones. I bought it off ebay. This is a similar one from the same seller :
    Plastic Weave patio mat

That mat was one of the best RV purchases I ever made! We love it.
  • We bought 2 matching outdoor area rugs from Lowe's. The two together are big enough that it is rug under our entire main awning. We just sweep it off. Have had it 2 years and it gets wet and dries well. We have never had any type of mildew or mold. When ready to go, we pull it out onto grass and start rolling it up sweeping the backing (looks like jute) as we go. We then stow them in one of the pass thru bays. They are heavy duty and do not show any signs of wear after 2 years. No fading going on either.
  • we have the large plastic weave type ordered from ebay. ours is around 9'x16' or so. they have the same type at walmart butnot as big. the sand and water go right through it, and it dries quickly. If you are careful to fold it the same way it came (like a map lol) it will go back into its storage bag easily.
  • I have had two of the plastic type. Both from CW.
The first one came apart after two years. The second is holding up better. We've had it for about 4 years.

I don't know why the first one separated. I washed it with simple green, let it dry and put it away. I stored it inside the camper under the bed.
Some have speculated the heat inside may have damaged the material.
I think it was just defective.

I just wash the current one with water, and store in its bag in the front pass-through.

I bought an outdoor carpet from Lowes after the first plastic one broke.
That outdoor carpet was NOT a good thing. It had a rubber backing, boy did it get HOT in the noon sun. You had to have shoes on.
I don't use it any more.
  • We have those reversible cheaopo plastic mats they sell everywhere for around $49. They're something like 12 X 16'. Just hose them off, let them dry and roll them up. We have ours since 2008 and they're still in excellent condition. No mold. Mud and sand rinses right off. No odors. And they're great to use under those First-Up gazebos.
