Electric vehicles are the main reason there is a growing movement towards a "miles driven tax". A black box will be installed in your vehicle to record and report every mile it is driven. Your tax bill will be based on that.
I once had a propane attendant attempt to charge Highway Fuel Tax when I filled my motorhome tank. I convinced him that the gasoline tank was the motor fuel, the propane was only heating and cooking fuel.
