Reese revolution wedge movement

I was returning on a curvy mountain highway and had a heart stopping moment. The Reese revolution on our Flagstaff fifth wheel felt as if it was going to pivot at the hitch besides the pivot point on the turret when I applied the brakes on a downhill curve. I saw the turret pivot in my rear view mirror approximately 6". I pulled over as quickly as I could using the trailer brakes manually was able to tighten 1 of the wedge bolts, as that was the only reason I could gather that the trailer would react that way. I did make it safely home and was able to tighten the wedge bolts some, but would that be the cause possibly? Would movement from the wedge cause the trailer to feel like it was going to do a double pivot on me? I am afraid to go anywhere now. I have a Reese 16k titan hitch and the Reese revolution pin.

  • Thank you for the info. I have checked all the items you mentioned. I believe it has slid back slightly, so I loosened, reset and re tightened. I was able to finally find a hitch company willing to take a look at it for me and re-torque. I will be more diligent in checking those bolts for sure.
    Thanks again.
  • Wedge is only thing that holds pin box stationary AT the hitch.

Wedge loose.it can slide back and king pin now can pivot inside hitch

DO you have the 'universal' wedge that comes OEM?
When installed did you turn the 'relief area' DOWN?

Did you tap wedge full forward when 1st hitched and then torque bolts to 150 ft/lbs?

Lot of pressure exerted on wedge.....
Banging in to hitch when hooking up
Side to side forces when turning, making maneuvers especially when backing in and having to 'jack' the rig

Sounds like routinely checking torque on wedges bolts is needed!
