I am glad you have a positive outlook.
That being said, that attitude towards warfarin is not even close to accurate.
I have been on it for exactly 5 years and 1 week. Yes it was used as rat poison, but it has been approved used as a medication since the 1950s.
I am not trying to make light of your unfortunate situation, and I am sorry you have gone through this, but I am hoping to help others avoid going through what you have gone through.
I had a valve replacement, and I was very active before my surgery. Maybe not quite as active as you were, but close. I downhill skied, mountain biked, hiked, hunted, fished, rv and tent camped, and watched my diet. After my surgery and being on medications for the first time in my life, I now downhill ski, mountain bike, hike, hunt, fish, rv and tent camp, and don't watch my diet quite as close.
In other words, it has had no effect on my life, and I plan on being on warfarin for many more years. Although, I do self medicate, but I have my own INR meter and I check my dosage weekly.
If anyone is scared of the rumors surrounding warfarin, don't believe them.
I sincerely hope your situation improves mr. ed, and thanks for trying to help others.
