I have a cargo carrier on the back of my toad.
I had to put the dot red and white strips on it because at night, especially at a stop light or stop sign. The car behind me would forget it was there after coming up behind me.
And then they would inch up and hit it.Especially pick up trucks because they sit so high and don't see the cargo carrier. :R
When I pulled a horse trailer with my MH DOT reflective tape was a must have. This link has several good pictures of what drivers behind you see with and without reflective tape.
