Renting RV out as a house/room on AirBNB?

When I am not using my RV it will be parked on my extra property in Washington. My sister lives on the property and there will be full hookups for the RV.

Has anybody rented out their RV as an extra room on AirBNB? The area it would be in has some tourism for wine country, but even just 1 or 2 nights a month would be nice.

Would like to hear if anybody has been successful.

  • Let's see what can go wrong,
Pyramid of poop in your holding tank. Ripped upholstery, Fire, broken windshield.

    What are the plusses?
Not everything has to make money
  • I would not do it. Too many things to go wrong.

If you decide to do it, let us know if there are any problems.
  • in the local paper the other day there was an ad wanted for a house/apartment to rent to 5 adults one baby on the way, 2 dogs, and 6 cats. they probably would be about a good tenants as would be available.
    I wouldn't do it myself.

  • Something else you need to think of is what are the county regulations? Here in northern WI, the county is in a big fight with short term, long term landlords and neighbors if it will continue to allow the AirBnB rentals.

Insurance is another big one as previously mentioned. Plus, I think I would be concerned about if after being instructed on the use of the toilet, would they forget to use plenty of water or do you want to deal with the dreaded poo pile.

Do you plan on a damage deposit, if yes, how much? Will your rental fee cover the cost of electric and propane?

Lots to think about, good luck.

I'm sure you will have to get a business license with the state and go though all of that...

Then your business will have to pass all of the requirements etc... the same as the local hotel business would have to do...

You would want to be a corporation so you can't personally be liable for things...

sounds like alot of items to go through to make a few bucks... They have attorneys for all of this... Probably not for a RV NET question and answer forum

  • I wouldn't trust people in my RV. Too many things to ruin.

Have you checked into your insurance policy?

Yes, she would be willing to do that as I am giving her a discount on the rent of my property for taking care of it!

Sounds kind of iffy to me.
Would you want complete strangers renting your house for a couple of nights?

Your argument is exactly what AirBNB is all about. Complete strangers renting your house when you aren't using it. So I guess the answer is yes? Also totally different in the RV where I am not living in it and everything in there (dishes, linens, etc..) I would be fine if they got dirty.
