Replacing Norcold Fridge: get 2 way or 3 way?

I am replacing my 1998 Norcold N9162 with a Norcold N641 or N641.3. (6.3 cubic feet)

Do you guys recommend I get the 3 way or will the 2 way be fine? I have 2 6 volt deep cell batteries in series as my house batteries. Leaning toward 3 way, but I'd like anyone's advice that is kind enough t share it.

Does anyone know the difference between the N641 or the N641.3?
  • I'd say just "Light My Fire" and not worry about the 12vdc option.

Because "People Are Strange" and don't like to run with their fridge on gas going down the road does not always mean it's going to be "The End" if you do.

But, I guess you could "Break On Through (To The Other Side)" and have the 12vdc choice too... :)

    Good luck! Mitch

    What is the 12 volt draw? . . .
Typically 20a - 24a for the 12vdc flue heater element. On our 3-way fridge, the 12vdc flue heater element heats the flue just as hot as propane (approx. 190 C).
  • “Could also go the residential fridge option...?“

    Not easy with two batteries.
  • 3 way has a DC Heater element......small wattage/not designed to cool fridge down but to be used to maintain a cold fridge while in transit

Use the DC element while traveling vs using propane

So if you have issues about traveling with propane ON.....fridge ON then go with the 3 way and use the DC heater element to keep fridge cool while traveling

Otherwise go with the 2 way......one less component to deal with and the DC element is really only good for travel
  • Get the 2 way. The 3 way has the option to run on batteries but two 6 volt batteries will not last very long if you try to run the fridge on 12 volt.
  • What is the 12 volt draw? What's the cost difference between 2 way and 3 way? Running a fridge on propane is cheap, easy.
