I would not let them get away with their land grab. They are self entiled bullies, with no respect or concern for others. I would put a halt to their rude and arrogant behavior. They are not special.
I would mention it once myself and if no results I would let management take it from there. It is not fair to you or the next occupants. I wouldn't want to be friends with these people anyway.
