All joking aside, these people obviously want what you have....your space. They already told the management as much. Their actions state that, no matter what management's decision or your wishes, they're going to take what they want.
You went above and beyond by talking nicely go the husband. It obviously did no good. I'd talk to the manager now. He already knows the situation and should do something about it.
