Albeit I don't do either.
Rope lights and who can come up with the best tacky lights is fun for many and interesting to look at for other campers.
AND...
Actually having the rope lights on the ground gives the camper a lit area at night to sit outside with friends and family without blaring a scare light. So many times it's done as a courtesy to other campers.:W
How'd you like to walk out your MH late at night and see this light off to the side behind your MH?! :E
