We have led rope lights but have an opening on our awning roller that they fit into. The light given off is much less, and softer than having the porch light on. It lights a smaller area, so I would think campers would appreciate us not lighting up the entire next site with the porch light. We don't leave them on all night though.
When we make it to the southwest, we will also put lights on the ground to help keep snakes and pack rats away. Depends on where you are as to why you use them. We will leave these on all night.
