Roseville, ca to Bishop, Ca

I'm getting ready to drive my RV from Roseville, in the Sacramento area, to Temecula, Ca, planning on spending the night in either Mammoth or Bishop. I'd like some input on the best, easiest route to drive. I did a mapquest, which sent me to Highway 50 to 89 to 395. Another alternative is 50 to 89 through Markleeville to 395. Any input on the easiest driving route would be appreciated.

  • Hmmm...
...down 99 thru Bakersfield over to 58?
    Man that's quite a drive.
  • Another thing, from 395 south from the 58, everyone drives like a bat out H377 until you get to the 210. Just watch your back door :)
  • Ron and Bear, you're both right about going to Bakersfield, over Tehachapi and to 395. The reason for my via 50 route was based on Mapquest, which shows how messed up that can be. Thanks again. 99 it is.
  • Unless you really want to go down 395 and stay at Bishop/Mammoth, I don't understand why you would want to go that route....way outta your way! 99 to 58 to 395 to I-15 to 215 to I-15 again. Or once on I-15, just stay on it.

However, if you do want to go all the way down 395, Mammoth RV park is $50 for a dirt site plus another $5 for every pet. In Bishop, there are two fairly decent rv parks, Brown Town (again, dirt sites) or Highlands rv park (very nice...sorta).

    good luck

  • Bear, the 99 to Bakersfield and over Tehachapi is actually a good idea, one I was just talking to my wife about. I didn't know it was so much shorter, and the mountain driving is much easier. Thanks for the suggestion.
  • I would go to Hwy 99 and head south to Bakersfield. Then take Hwy 58 east to I-15 and head south to Temecula.

Or you can go further south on I-5 into LA and get to the I-210 to head east towards the I-15. My choice would be the Hwy 99 route.

Unless you want to go across to 395 for some other reason which actually is over two hours longer than Hwy 99 or even using I-5 to get south.
