IF you are going to stick to secondary roads as much as possible then a MUST HAVE is the old stubby pencil, Rand McNally Motor Carriers Atlas. With this you can double check that you high tech gadget isn't sending you under a 10' overpass, that the roads you're using are suitable for truck traffic with no restrictions. If trucks can use it you'll be good to go too.
