RV and bad mattress

We recently purchased an RV that has a Sleep Number bed. It is excruciatingly uncomfortable. The bed platform in our Class A is the kind that lifts at the end with storage underneath.

We are so desperate for sleep that we are considering driving 1000 miles to an Original Mattress factory to purchase their orthopedic plush mattress (have had one before and like it) as they can manufacture the 76" length we need with just 3 days notice. These are thick, heavy, flippable mattresses.

My question is: Will we still be able to lift the end of the bed to access the storage underneath? Will a quality, heavy mattress flex enough to lift the lid at the end?

Here's a great product my brother just told me about. It's a mattress topper custom made to fit your mattress. My brother has a new sailboat and they make these toppers for the cushion beds in boats. You contact them and they send you a package to make a template. Send them back the template and they make a tufted topper with elastic/fitted sides. They will also take a set of your favorite sheets or a set of theirs and make you fitted sheets for your mattress.

back in the days when I worked on RV's a customer who had owned several rv's told the salesman he didn't want the mattress that came with the new TT. he wound up getting $250.00 towards a mattress of his choice. he went to local mattress store and applied the 250 towards a good mattress

The "entry level" Fleetwood Pioneer we had. Had a GREAT mattress. Better than the one in the house. Wish I had kept it when we traded. the mattress in the "higher end" TT we have now. Is terrible. We have a friend that works in a foam factory, and for $30.00. He made us a 4" foam pad to put under it. It is now much better. But the bed is harder to get into because of the height.

My OFF-ROAD POPUP Trailer sure had a thin mattress in the tent bed ends... I added three inch memory foam to those but then ran into what happens to memory foam and memory foam pillows when the temps goes down to freezing...

It seems they get hard as a rock when the temps go down haha...

If you are laying in the bed when this happens then when you get up there is a deep compression of you laying in bed until it all warms up...

I never knew memory foam did that...

This added three inches to the mattress also just barely fits now when the roof is lowered for travel... Used to lay things on the bed for storage before that haha...

Mattress toppers can make a world of difference.

If you can't find one the right size, you can cut them down very easily with an electric knife (the kind used to shred a thanksgiving turkey) or even a serrated bread knife.

Also I will make the link more user friendly if I just knew how.....lol. Not sure how to make it where you can just click on it without copying and pasting the link.
