Dilution is the solution to pollution!
That's a very dangerous statement. It makes it sound like dumping a gallon of antifreeze is a bad thing....... Unless you dilute it with 100 gallons of water first.
News flash, it's still a gallon of antifreeze being dumped in the environment. - RAS43Explorer III

I don't put it in the fresh water tank, just the black and grey tanks.
For what reason? Isn't the pink stuff cheaper as well as safer? Saw some at WalMArt for $2.58 gal.
Yes, it is safer but difficult to get out of the fresh water tank when preparing for use. I bypass the tank and water heater and pump it into the lines using the onboard pump. What comes out of the faucets goes into the traps and tanks. One gallon does it for me and I have never had a problem with freezing/damage. In the spring I can easily flush the system. - pitchExplorer IIDilution is the solution to pollution!

- derh20ExplorerI guess one is never too old to learn something new. The good news is I did not put any in the fresh water tank.
- wa8yxmExplorer IIIREgular antifreeze is toxic, a small amount can kill you.
RV antifreeze is a mild poisonm, a very LARGE amnount can kill you
Also Regular antifreeze is what 10-12, more dollars a gallon
RV antifreeze 2-3 dollars a gallon
You will need to completly flush all the Toxic stuff out of your fresh water system. I would do it NOT before it has a chance to "Soak in" if it does that,, Lots of fresh water rinses,m then finally blow the lines out with compressed air, and do not PUT anything in the tanks or lines (Fresh system only) use the Pink Stuff for the waste system (Toilets, Drain traps and such.
on the fresh tank make sure you get it ALL OUT,, ENgine Antifreeze is very nasty stuff.. So make sure you suck that tank dry,, which is not possible on my rig without a whole lot of effort.
I would flush at least 10 times. - JaxDadExplorer IIISpent nuclear fuel is biodegradable too, given enough time. Want it in your backyard?

Being toxic is not a big deal in a small amount if diluted well and not dumped on the ground.
Actually, it IS a big deal, it's also illegal in every jurisdiction in North America to dump it into a septic system or municipal sewer.
Then again, for all the car crashes and radiator leaks in the world, there are no safety backup containment systems in existence...
Probably good not to dump it down the drain (or the lawn) but maybe it's not the "toxic nuclear waste" that some make it out to be.
Edit: Upon further reaearch, it seems that it's readily biodegradable. Really toxic to dogs, and indeed requires care, but if you spill some on the driveway...it needs a good rinsing, not jail time.
I agree that when diluted down it is not harmful. As far as car accidents....well that's not controllable like if you purposely poured it down the drain.
However hey do make RV antifreeze that should make posts like this not come up! Yet they still do which means that some people don't realize (or know better) that it is not good for the environment or that you shouldn't use it in a poatable water system!
Like I said, RV antifreeze is cheaper and just as available as auto antifreeze. No reason to be using the poisonous stuff at all in an RV! - K3WEExplorer
