- cekkkExplorerWhile I can't find confirmation with a search, I seem to remember a selling point for the Edsel was that it was built with a lot fewer parts. Soon, the joke was that its owners wanted those parts back! :B
- LindsayRichardsExplorerHenry Ford and the Mustang were developed with private money. They are using tax money for this. The concept is flawed. Few people are willing to buy a car that goes 35 miles on an 8 hour charge. Their horrible sales prove this point. I would much rather have seen my tax money go towards researching a vehicle that the folks would want and buy. If they come up with one in a few years that is a winner, then I will buy one. The $1.5 BILLION of course is just peanuts compared to the $85 BILLION bailout. By the way, the Edsel was really a Ford with a few different, cosmetic parts. Very little research money involved compared to the Vault.
- Lots of other cars have also come and gone from the GM line up. Should the company just roll over and never try anything new?
Should Ford have just stuck with the Model T? Ford may have regretted the Edsel but that is no reason to fear developing the Mustang that sold about 1,000,000 copies in the first 18 months. - BumpyroadExplorer

Done is done. I hope the Volt does well along with the other plug in hybrids and electric vehicles.
Not many new cars sell like the initial Mustang.
Even the Corvette was a tough sell the first couple years.

I was there then and from the looks of it, surprised they sold 2,400?

- LindsayRichardsExplorerIt isn't the math, but where the supporting numbers come from. Glad some of us don't believe these left wing websites that supplied the numbers. You are happy thinking it is a good deal for taxpayers. That's good. Unfortunately very few others are buying them.

It is nice that a few of us can do the math. Some sharp folks here some not so much. - LindsayRichardsExplorerFor the development of the Volt. Fezziewig's number. I had read $3 Billion.
