Nope, but the old saying isn't necessarily correct, anymore... - AO_hitechExplorer

Henry Ford and Thomas Edison would disagree as would Apple, Microsoft, and millions of other companies. Folks who do not innovate, don't last too long. Ask Palm Pilot, Royal typewriters, Sears, Blockbuster, Hostess Brands and a whole lot more. Savy business people know this to their core.
Other than Henry Ford and Thomas Edison (before my time, don't know the environment then, and wasn't talking that far back anyway) I'd have to say you made my point for me...

Government has no business loaning (guaranteeing, same thing) money to companies. First big mistake along those lines that I recall and worked on, minimally, was the '79 Chrysler bailout, although I know the airlines and RRs came before.
Agreed. That's the mistake of "privatisation", where you give government money (that would be spent by a gov agency) to a private company as a loan or grant.
The best way to do mixed gov/private development is where the gov keeps overall management and planning and just sublets contracts to sub-contractors. That's how we did all the succesful major projects back in the 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s. Like Boulder dam, Grand Coulee, olden Gate Bridge, bay Bridge, TVA, etc. It was only the mania of 'privatisation' in the 80s that gave strategy to the private firms and allowed venal CEOs to strategize going-out-of-business plans that left them personally with golden parachutes. Like Solyndra. - cekkkExplorer

As for the name calling, many of those "airheads" have outstanding scholastic records. And on Fox they don't surround themselves with three or four lefties and spew WH talking points, or choke on their mics if a guest dare attempt to utter truth, like that nauseating Soledad O’Brien, recently resurrected in desperation from well earned obscurity. - LindsayRichardsExplorer

- LindsayRichardsExplorerThe DOE has a huge history of making bad loans to electrical projects. The 56 mpg is a projection not a reality. I think Heather Childers is the airhead who said that the Volt got 1,000 mph.
- tomman58ExplorerHeather Childers is she one of the airheads from FOX noise? She likely predicted the election with Rove, LOL.
So basically you are saying the DOE is doing their job? Move on people nothing tho see here..................
Well we will be pursuing better and newer energy courses for the future.
Once the infrastructure for NG in rural areas is installed the price will go up dramatically. With all the fracking and such we will gain in market share with others in selling it to China, thus regaining some of the cash of ours they have. With our current plans of 56MPG we won't need much oil our selves.
I might say it would be even better if they mandate a lower MPG for all cars existing then things would move forward faster. - LindsayRichardsExplorerAn inflatable car makes great sense in DC with all that hot air. Going to be hard to beat that 1000 mpg claimed here by a Volt owner.
- cekkkExplorerGreen car company sues over Dept. of Energy cronyism. I'm outraged! Here's a perfectly good idea for a green car, guaranteed to fail, and it couldn't get a dime from DOE! It's a "pretty cool car, an inflatable car, it's made from expandable foam," according to the lovely Heather Childers. Ahh, Heather Childers. Ought to have a sticky on how yummy - but I digress.
The good news is, the courts are going to get involved. They'll sort this out. I'm going to add a few bucks to my 2012 return designated for payment to the struggling D.C. and NYC lawfirms. :S
