I understand even a coal fired plant distributing electric to a vehicle will have lower emissions and higher efficiency than an equivelent gasoline powered vehicle. And it goes up from there as not all power comes from coal.- LindsayRichardsExplorerYou forgot the free air that the power companies use to generate the electricity to fuel up the electric cars when the burn fossil fuels. - LindsayRichardsExplorerActually there is no such thing as a "free charge". It fit into that free lunch thing. The power received does cost just as much as if you did it at home, it is just paid for by others. In this case by the other rate payers through higher electricity rates at their homes. It is kind of like the free cheese, the dairy gets paid for it by the government and they just give it away to the needy. It is "free" only to the needy, society still has to pay for it. Usually those getting the "free" cheese don't really advertise it as they are embarrassed.
- tomman58ExplorerWhere I park downtown (to get a free charge) the spots have a lot of DTE (our power company) cars parked also. Some of the cars are Volts and an occasional off brand. Yesterday I noticed a Ford pick up and a Dodge pickup plugged in. I happened upon an Edison guy who was taking out the Dodge and he said they were "commissioned " to test the two pickup with the electric.
Hmmmmmmmmmmm interesting. One thing with a pickup there would be places to stick in a battery pack.
I wonder just how many people pay the "cash" price as opposed to charging their fuel? - AO_hitechExplorerWell, since the notice was sent to 2013 Volt owners that probably explains it best. :S

My car is a 2012 so that is why I wasn't told.
Probably sent the notice to the lessor who owns your car. GM doesn't know about you. - tomman58Explorer

Can't seem to find it Bumpy. There is a Honda recall for that I believe.

Seems it has something to do with the delayed carging app. You have options with the Volt for charging, I always charge at home after 9 pm and anytime on weekends for the cheaper rate.

My BAD. not a recall, is a customer satisfaction issue. yes, I would be dissatisfied if my $40,000 vehicle just mysteriously stopped on me. :s
