- LindsayRichardsExplorerBack before I was born, my Dad used to rent housing to Army Air Corp airmen and used to get 100 plus octane gas sometimes from them (rationing was in affect) and said it made his car run really hot. These were much different cars and probably doesn't apply to today's vehicles.
- AO_hitechExplorerHigher octane will not hurt any vehicle. Lower certainly can...
- Ski_Pro_3ExplorerIn NZ they have no oil production. Every drop is brought in on a ship but they do have a refinery here in Tauranga. I'll look up the tax charges.
- cekkkExplorerI'm wondering what the tax is on both gas and diesel there down under.
- LindsayRichardsExplorerI wonder if that NZ 97 octane would be dangerous to a regular American car.
- SRTExplorerWow, another increase to $3.79 from $3.69. Geeze, oil hasn't reached $100 a barrel yet.
- Greydog_1ExplorerThanks for that NZ update. I'd guess they are getting robbed at the pumps too. Must be a trend world wide.
- Ski_Pro_3ExplorerI'm in New Zealand on vacation visiting family and thought y'all might like to hear about fuel costs in this part of the world for comparison. After translating NZ dollars to American dollars and liters to gallons, the price for regular gas is $6.69 a gallon average and as low as $6.39 with discounts from a grocery store like Safeway does. The real eye opener was the octane. Regular here is 91 and premium in 97. Considering that in the USA regular is 87 octane with premium 91 or 92, I'd have to say to compare apples to apples, I'd have to price American premium costs to NZ regular costs. Seems premium around CA is around $4.50 a gallon. About 2 bucks less than NZ regular.
Diesel however, is almost the same in NZ as it is in California; around $4.50 a gallon or so. Lots more cars over in NZ use diesel too. Brand names of cars are familiar; Mazda for example, but models are not familiar and many are diesel. - Desert_CaptainExplorer IIIRegular continues to be $3.11 here in Tucson. :C
- SRTExplorerHalf the gas stations are now posting a price of $3.69. Looks like that will be the new price level.
