Of course I am going against the grain but I power my house with a generator.I live in a rural area prone to power outages.I got tired of running extension cords all over the house so I tapped into my electric stove outlet and went thru the outside wall and mounted a box.I simply turn the main breaker OFF,the dryer OFF and the water heater OFF .I plug my generator cord into the box and voila, I have power.Yes I have a male plug on both ends of wire from generator.The cord stays plugged into my generator.I simply go thru the steps and I am powered up.It may not be recommended but it has worked for me for quite a few trouble free years
