Rv insurance comprehensive coverage language?

Hi all. I am reviewing my coverage, and presently insured by National Interstate. I have never filed a claim thus have no knowledge of their claims practices...but that isn't at issue here.

I recently read the comprehensive section of the policy and the exclusions listed seem to pretty much negate coverage for water leaks etc. Does anyone have coverage with an insurer that provides more consumer friendly comprehensive coverage on an RV policy?

As an example, I am concerned that damage caused by freezing or gradual leakage of water, as well as damage caused by latent defects is not covered...there must be a better policy out there???????
  • I was thinking more along the lines of a window leaking into a wall where extensive damage would result over a longer period of time...that is not a maintenance issue and in many cases the leak and resulting damage go unnoticed until there is major problem.

Similarly, I was thinking about freezeups when the unit is in use and heated but a pipe gets too cold and freezes causing a flood.

I'm really just curious about how different companies phrase their policies...the issue is that I seem to not be covered in these two scenarios, as well as others that come to mind.
  • I don't think you can expect the insurance company to reimburse you because you failed to do the maintenance on your RV. Checking the roof to ensure it doesn't leak is maintenance. Winterizing the RV is maintenance. A tree falling on your RV is an insurable event.
  • It sounds to me like you really are looking for an extended warranty.

Insurance is for losses not defects....
  • Purchase a "Flood" Policy from the Gov. You will then have water damage coverage.
