Language barriers?

I don't think I heard or saw a word of French while we spent four weeks in western Canada.

Good morning. All the National parks in Canada (like Banff Jasper etc) will have road signs in both official languages. As well there is a strong French Canadian Community in Banff and Canmore and French is commonly spoken but the vast majority will be bilingual. German also has a strong presence in that area.

Since 1988 I have spent more than 13 months in Western Canada and I have never had any sight of French except in National Parks where some of the signs are bi-lingual.

Never seen more than about 6 French cars even.

So don't worry.

I'm a Western border dweller, so little contact with French-speaking Canadians. But Canadian ENGLISH can be perplexing at times, too.

Favorites picked up from my neighbors-to-the-North are "keener", "fubar", and "hooped" none of which I understood until I looked them up in the closest thing to an online guide to Canuckspeak I could find, at this link
