I’ve been a wanderer since I was a teenager, now I’m retired and can wander more. I’ve backpacked and also hunted, camped and hiked most of my life so I have a very strong attraction to the outdoors and an equal aversion to anything hinting of a city. Most of my camping is in mountain national forest campgrounds or boondocking and a commercial park is almost an act of desperation. But if it’s a small place like Ouray or Telluride we’ll go in and wander around a bit.
I have a small TT that allows me to get well back in on forest or other unimproved roads. We usually stay there until I’ve checked out the country pretty well, then we’ll change spots. My TV’s 4WD so we can also go further back in than I can get the TT and it’s set up so we can stay back in overnight if we like.
We have two teenage granddaughters who have camped with us since they were almost babies. We’ve lost them for the most part the last couple of years. Boys and jobs, you know.:) And recently a new grandson in FL. So the last couple of years, driving to see them had cut far too much into my camping trips and I’m getting antsy. I don’t see that changing, so I just need to allot more time for the camp trips.
