Rv rental won't let us tow our vehicle...how do we rent a car at every stop?

We have rented an RV (our first time) and thought we would tow our jeep for day excursions, etc.  We are only able to tow up to 2500 lbs so now we are worried about how we get away from the campground at each stop without losing tons of time.  Do you rent a car at each stop or rent a small car to tow?  We would love any tips from experienced RV'ers.  We travel alot by plane but have considered purchasing an RV to see more of the U.S. but it has become overwhelming with so many unknowns.

  • Wow, where to start.
Idk how you’d ever rent a car within a short distance of 99.5% of places you would camp in a RV. And if you’re camping in the middle of cities then stick to hotels….

Your query suggest that not only do you not know anything about RVs but also nothing about towing or how you would setup a toad (and you didn’t say a tow dolly) or the capacities/capabilities  of various vehicles. IE small 4 banger SUVs have 2500-whatever tow capacity.
A full size chassis motorhome has a greater tow capacity in, again, the vast majority of applications.
And if you rent, they don’t know what you’re gonna tow. But it’s at your risk if you’re taking that on.
suggestion, use the interwebs to figure out the basic logistical weirdness of the rental part as well as what/how to tow, we’ll, anything.
Or the short answer is it seems like RVing doesn’t fit your plan.

  • The money and time you will spend setting up a car to tow would be much more than a rental car at each stop. People that own their RVs don't have the constraints you do. They pick the right RV and set up the right vehicle to tow.

And one would literally need to camp in a city or a suburb or a major city or at a minimum a large town to even be able to rent a car within uber or delivery distance.
But it wouldn’t take too many days of that type of rental goat rope to set up a toad or buy a dolly.
Now, the OP could much more reasonably rent a dolly for however long and tow it behind the rental Moho if they can navigate that process.
Although they appear to be talking longer term travel stints or the dogs wouldn’t be an issue, until you’re kenneling or trying to get the neighbor to watch them for weeks at a time.
It’s a matter of having some sort of a basic plan that you vet out ideas or limitations that are non starters. Maybe they’re at that stage.

Provided their car can be towed on a dolly. To your earlier point, op needs to educate themselves on the requirements of towing a car. OP mentioned they have a jeep which can't be towed on a dolly. Only 4 down or a trailer. Could rent a trailer I guess ( huge hassle) but tow bars, base plates, wiring, etc to set up 4 down would be quite a bit of money. And doing it for one trip is a huge waste of that money. Either way, sounds like their RV is a stripped down made for rental from cruise America or a dealer and has no tow capacity. Personally, I'd rent a bigger RV from someone privately, rent a dolly and a car that can be towed on a dolly.

  • I should add........The addition of two puppies prompted the need to travel this way sooner than later.
