- Chris_BryantExplorer IIInterestingly enough, there is a new Bowlus Road Chief being built- a very, very, very nice unit (also very, very expensive)-
http://www.bowlusroadchief.com/ - cdlaineExplorerPat ,
that is great stuff... thanks for the link...Curtiss !!
Now, (of course, deferring to the historians) ... that little
aluminum jewel on the front left... I suspect could be the ultra
rare Bowlus-Teller aluminum trailer (possibly, the "Road Chief")...
Mr. Bowlus was Lindberg's shop foreman at Ryan (think Spirit of St. Louis)...
and I believe his "RV" shop and equipment was (around this time)
bought out by Wally Byam (Airstream)... and, the rest is history. So,
direct lineage to aviation history.
please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong... I love the
backstories.
Charles - LynnmorExplorerIn 1936 they had no 65+ MPH super highways, but they still had enough sense to consider aerodynamics. Each one is shaped better than what is produced today.
- wny_pat1ExplorerIf my eyes are seeing what I think they are seeing, the 5th Wheel on the left about half way back, can be seen in person at a museum in Hammondsport, NY. If it isn't that one, it is very similar. http://www.glennhcurtissmuseum.org/
Guess this one has a different tow vehicle. "Glenn Curtiss designed the hitch for his fifth wheel trailer the Curtiss Aerocar Land Yacht. This is a 1938 International D15 tow car pulling a 1936 Curtiss Aerocar. This style of travel trailer was invented in about 1927 by Glenn Curtiss, a leading American aircraft designer."

Does look a little posed tho'... so well balanced,
a group at each door, and others strategically placed...
all semi-facing the camera.
as mentioned, in 1936 the amount of discretionary income
must have been pretty slim, so , the market targets must
have been the affluent (well dressed). Do miss the Dick
Tracy hats though !
Charles - campiglooExplorerKinda neat how the people were dressed. Looks like it was a significant social event, even though it must not have taken long to go through.
- cdlaineExplorer...if I recall correctly,
a show put on by the Automobile Club of Southern California,
in L.A. .....
historically, hard to imagine how the next ten years would change
our world.
Charles - mleekampExplorerPalm trees -- most likely Cal or FL.
I'd take that silver bullet on the lower left....but if I was there, i'd probably not be able to afford it back then!! - ScottGNomadGreat image, any idea where it was taken?
- bradnailerExplorerBet it was cool though.
