- noe-placeExplorerSo if one stays at LH the best way to get into the city is to walk to the subway station? We don't toad so this sounds good. Is my thinking practical?
- jmlExplorerLiberty Harbor in Jersey City, we went there two times.
Same comments as other said, less than one mile walking to subway station then to Manhattan 34th st/Broadway ot to Ground Zero.
Not a "campground" experience, but a great urban experience. - luvglassExplorerBest park is at Croton on Hudson and is about 50 minutes train ride to Grand Central in midtown Manhattan. Nice park right on the Hudson river and least expensive.
- MerrykaliaExplorerLiberty Harbor is close, it's clean, it's safe and secure. It's not a "camping" experience, but is good for what you need.

- D___MExplorerLiberty Harbor, located in Jersey City, NJ, is the spot you need. I stay there when I need to go to the city. The "campground" itself is basically a chunk of a hugh commuter parking lot that the owner fenced off and added some electrical and water connections. But it is all about location. Used to be surronded by industry and scrap yards but they have cleaned it all up in anticipation of building new high rises and office buildings. There is a water taxi that leaves from the marina M-F starting at around 6 am and takes you on a 10 minutes cruise over to Pier 13(?) on the East River (foot of Wall Street), or you can walk up Marin Blvd and catch the PATH subway train at the Grove St station. It will take you either to 34th Street (an MTA hub) or to the World Trade Center
As you alreadt figured out, you won't get to much closer than 50-60 miles if you want a nice park. Croton Point or the KOA in Newburg, NY (sic) are your best choices. Stayed at Black Bear in Florida, NY once...would not return. There is a County park in Orange County called Winding Hills Park (Montgomery, NY)..clean, nicely wooded. but no hook ups. Don't know the size or type of your rig, but if you have a smaller rig and you don't mind boondocking, you might check it out. - sdianel_-acct_cExplorerWe stayed at the Newburgh NY KOA and took their bus tour into NYC. It's pricey but so worth it. We were gone 12 hours and saw all the highlights. The info is on their website. If you don't want to take the tour bus, you can drive a few miles to the Beacon NY train station and take the train into NYC and pickup a tour there. The train ride into the city is about an hour. Don't go at rush hours.
- esyersExplorerLiberty Harbor is the closest, right on the waterfront across from Lower Manhattan.
You could also look at www.blackbearcampground.com They run tours to the city right from the campground. Much nicer than dealing with the traffic. - rv2goExplorer IILiberty Harbor RV Park is really close by. Just across the river from Manhattan.
