Too bad you're not coming through the area a little later in the Spring. Hertz offers rental cars for $5-$7.50 a day one way to get their huge Florida Winter fleet out of the area.
We flew into Orlando, visited Disneyworld and headed north through Savannah, Charleston, Myrtle Beach--ending up in Washington, DC
We especially enjoyed Charleston but found Savannah and Tybee Island to be a little too quiet for our tastes.
