School me on waste totes

I'm considering purchasing a waste tote. I'm envisioning leaving it in the bed of the truck and pumping into it. I think I'm staying in the 30 gallon range as it'll be fairly large, yet still manageable and easily stowed.

Having never owned one, I'm not sure what features to look for or avoid. Any brand preferable to others?

A thirty gallon tote full weighs 250 pounds minimum water only plus the tote. That’s manageable for you lifting a full tote from your truck bed to the ground?

No need, hook the long hose up and dump from the truck bed.
  • After you buy a waste pump for $256 at CW. https://www.campingworld.com/flojet-rv-waste-pump-kit-26125.html Whole bunch of money and trouble for starters on the dots.

Ah, cuzz, he doesn’t want to move his RV. If OP is willing to take his RV to the dump station why would he need a tote?

For starters, "truck" means that he has towable.

He said he'd pump it from the RV to the tote in the truck.

Connecting the dots, the truck would then have a full tote in the bed. The next step is to drive the truck (w/tote in the bed) to the dump, connect a dump hose from the tote to the drain, and then let gravity do its dance.

    Seems pretty straightforward.

  • My experience with the tote is that it was a life-saver when I needed it, but it wasn't as easy to drain from the tote as it was from the actual dump valve on the RV. It was totally worth the hassle and the extra care though.

  • I took the wheels off of a 30 gallon Barker and used a Flojet to pump up to the bed.
    Hate the Blue thunder.

I've got an old 32 gal. Barker. Comes in real handy from time to time. Don't use it a lot but when you need it it's great. I don't see the need to pump anything. I just tow it to the dump station as designed. We only use it for gray water. Never filled up our black tank.

the two major brands are Thetford and Barker.
