Guns are NOT dangerous. I have carried one at work for 13 years and never injured or killed anyone with it. If anything... BULLETS are dangerous. Again... I have never heard of a bullet jumping up and hurting or killing someone. There is ALWAYS someone on the other side of that trigger that pulls it and causes injury or death. The person with the gun is dangerous... NOT THE GUN.
I never stated that people should be able to do anything they want. I stated that I agree with the right to possess a firearm (except for mentally ill or convicted felons). I believe there should be more stringent requirements to carrying a gun though. As I stated before, you should have some type of minimal qualifications, legal training and force on force training every year if you want to carry a gun. I go through that to carry my gun... I don't see why a citizen shouldn't have that same right as long as they meet the same criteria.
Gun are dangerous. Just like cars are dangerous. Or knives. Or firecrackers. Or medicine. They create a potential for injury based on their inherent traits. Yes, a person must be present in order for that danger to take place, but that doesn't remove the inherent danger of the device/item in itself.
My comment about "doing anything they want" wasn't directed at you in particular. It was directed at the idea that gets tossed around in these arguments that any gun regulation is evil and there should be no regulations regarding guns ever.
If you read my posts, you would see that I agree with you about training, qualifications, etc. I would have no problem with that - but as long as the NRA opposes any and all gun regulation, it's never going to see realization.
This country has got to learn that you can't have all or nothing. Everything in a community is a compromise. Learn to find a compromise that works and these hot topic issues will fade away. Keep insisting that your believe/desire is the only one that is acceptable and nothing less will be tolerated is only going to make things worse. (And no, I'm not saying this about you - I'm saying it against those on both sides unwilling to work together regarding any friggin' issue out there).
There are plenty of gun regulations and people who keep trying to change them, many would get rid of guns altogether. Look at what's going on in this country now. People want less law enforcement due to them doing their jobs asked of them. This country is becoming more and more lawless by the day. Many Law enforcement are backing off in light of many things that have gone in certain parts of this country in the last couple of years. Go ask people in those areas where the riots were how their lives are now. The cops won't show up anymore. They are turned into a crime infested rat hole even worse then before.
Some people aren't happy unless they're telling everyone else how to live their lives. You either support the constitution or you don't.
