I don't visit NP's but once evey few years if lucky. For me anyway I could care less if I get a discount at NP's. I bought my SP when it was $10 or $20.
We mainly use it when camping at Forest Service type CG's. It gives us a 50% discount. I also take advantage of some CG's that offer a discount for being over 62 or higher. Why not? All this BS about I'm too good to need a discount is ridiculous. If they didn't want you to take a discount then they wouldn't offer it to you.
As far ass the Gov reducing the times for discounts, I have no problem with that either. Everything's more expensive every year so more revenue is needed for maintenance.
I look at it this way. Your work place offers gives you a bonus at the end of the year. You complain that it's too small. Fact is they don't have to give you one period.
Same with the SP. Be lucky you get what you get.

I paid a lot of full-price fees and 59 years of taxes, over the years. Giving older citizens a break when they reach a period where we are, mostly, on fixed incomes, seems fair. I stay at some COE parks on a regular basis. I don't know how they can afford to maintain them so well. The Senior pass is a bargain at any price. If they restrict it I don't care. Not going to complain. If I can't afford it I will stay home.

Yes, us old farts are getting in at free or reduced rates depending on which card we have and even getting a break on camping fees, but it's like going to the movies - we're spending tons of money in the parks on other things.

They actually roped off portions of DC on NPS land. There is video of that instruction. He said he wanted to make it hurt to make a point.

Yes, but to me there is a big difference make everybody hurt/make a point not to close the ones that put money in your pocket.
Or try to close the areas to people that want to assemble to address grievances with the government.
