- Rmack1ExplorerThanks, everyone.
You guys should like this story;
I took the prevailing advice and bought a brand-new 'Rhino' sewer hose with new fittings. It was really cheap at Wally World, so, why not?
I was getting ready to hook up my new sewer hose system, when I un-capped the low point drain.....and got hit with a solid steam of month old raw black tank sewage!!!!! RAHHHH!!!!!!
I put the cap back on real fast, which reminds me of an old joke, but later. I only got slimed on my hands and shoes.
I KNOW that I closed that black tank dump valve last trip. I had to of! It must have either been knocked open by road debris, or opened by someone with a perverse sense of humor. What a mess. luckily, I was at a place that had paved sites, and lots of water pressure to wash it all away.
Suffice to say, I have a new entry on my set-up check list.
I feel I'm a fully initiated RV'er now! - westendExplorerRay,
If you're storing the hose in a steel bumper, I'd suggest you look around on the Forum for the nifty hose compartments guys are making. Storing the hose in a steel bumper is only asking for short hose life, IMO.
Here's a picture of the fence-post-and-gutter-model that a few of us have built:
- Rmack1ExplorerI bought a brand-new Rhino 15' kit today.
And once I dragged the old hose out of my TT's bumper, I saw that it had been run over. At least once. Probably why it leaked.
Thanks for the input, guys. It sent the impetus to cause me to look, rather than speculate. Always better science. - mvpmichExplorerCut it and make a couple of small extensions for future use. The last thing you want to do is create a mess at your next campsite.

I have been told that I am and I feel that I am a frugal person. IMHO the idea of patching a sewer hose is right in there with some of the things my stepdad did to save money such as sitting at night splitting a roll of 2 ply toilet paper into two single ply roles, or after scooping the cat liter saving it to use as oil absorbent for the driveway.
I can live with the fact that a person can believe he is frugal when he rewinds the 2 ply toilet paper into 2 single ply rolls, but if you try and come back and tell us he recycled it,I will just plain call him CHEAP. - TyroneandGladysExplorerI have been told that I am and I feel that I am a frugal person. - bertnspikeExplorerCareless maintenance people with weed whackers can "wear out" a sewer hose VERY fast, and your hose riser is not going to prevent it. Sometimes - ONLY sometimes - they don't know any better. I've used a riser, wrapped my hose in an old towel, and put concrete pavers under the riser and STILL gotten whacked. It didn't stop until I threatened the grounds maintenance people with a complaint to management and a bill. Now they make a SLIGHT effort.

- scroller95969ExplorerCall me wasteful but I replace my Rhino hose after 3 years of use whether it has a leak or not.
- down_homeExplorer IILike others: see one pinhole and others are on their way. The wire reenforcement rusts and rubs holes in the cheap vinyl. Birds will peck holes too.
We switched to a Rhino job some time ago and no leaks yet.
