Sewer Hose Protection

I have been told Magpies will peck holes in the sewer hose. I would like ideas to protect the hose from sun deterioration and critters chewing pecking it. We will be in Wash State for 6 months in same location.

Thanks

  • The cost of all the krap you would buy would probably cost more than the krap your trying to protect.

Ditto and I keep two sections in my rear pass thru mainly to lay my stinky slinky in to keep it straight so it drains better and doesn't look so much like a snake on the ground.

  • We don't have any sewer hose pecking critters in Washington State. So, come on out and enjoy your stay.

But, I do think we have laws on the books prohibiting the waxing of sewer hoses.
  • First see what the locals are doing. Probably no issues.

If it is a local issue I would tend to hard pipe with abs or pvc for the six months.
  • Only had my stinky slinky damaged twice in decades of camping... First time I was doing some camper mods that required some reinforcing to be welded to the bumper. Guess who forgot to remove the slinky? Second time involved friends we were camping with and too much beer consumption by the fire!

However, for a 6-month stint I'd probably just hit HD and get some PVC pipe, whatever bends I needed and Ferncos so connect to the valve and the CG riser.
  • I have heard those stories about birds, especially crows, but never had it happen to me or to any camper I talked to. I think it is an urban/rural myth.
  • I put a length of rain gutter on top of the hose here in AZ to keep the woodpeckers and sun off. There have been reports of woodpecker damage here from time to time.
  • 25 years of RVing here and I've never had anything attack my sewer hose.
I don't think it's anything to worry about.
