Should I winterize today? Advice please

We just got back from the Keys last evening just after dark. Of course last night was the coldest night of the Winter so far. It was predicted down to 23 by the NWS and 27 by local news. I think the actual was 27 or 28 here.

I did brave the cold and drained the HWH and fresh tank. Also opened the faucets and opened up the low point drains, so hoping all is well.

High today is 40 with 25-27 predicted tonight, then it warms up. I would rather wait till Wedn or Thurs when it is going to be 60 to winterize with antifreeze because I want to clean out the black tank good and really don't want to hook up and do that at 40 degrees. Got to worrying this AM about the toilet / pump freezing. Didn't leave any heat on in the TT last night because I was more worried about doing that with no one on board to keep an eye on it than the freezing ( I know that should not be a worry but it is ).

Sorry for the long post but just looking for opinions as to whether the pump or toilet would likely freeze @ 25-27 with the system drained as stated above. Seems to me it would take more of a hard freeze. Thanks in advance
  • Go ahead and winterize. Then when you go to clean the tank. Simply run a hose to the bathroom. No need to hook the camper to water. Use the hose to rinse the black tank. Doing it that way. You will not put any water back into the water lines, and will not have to winterize again.

Be sure to leave the pump off as well.

I would have already winterized the night I got back, or left the heat on. Hope it isn't too late.
  • I would winterize or turn on the heat. Don't forget the drain traps.
  • Thanks folks, guess I'll break out the antifreeze. BTW the TT is stored at my home.
  • It's difficult to predict how long it's going to take to freeze both items. I think you'd be better off winterizing today.
  • First of all, where is the trailer?
You have dumped what you can. Maybe just blowing air though the lines is all you need to do. Not knowing where you are at confuses any advice.
  • I would winterized at 25 as that is a hard freeze if more than an hour or two.
