SHOWER DOMES

I have a 2 piece shower dome, inner and outer. Does any one know what is the purpose of the inner dome? Is it needed?

I wonder how that stink bug got in between the inner and outer dome in my NEW 2015? My guess it is more cosmetic than functional...JMHO

Trapping a layer doesn't mean it's perfectly sealed.

While perfectly sealed is more efficient, it is much harder to accomplish. Even partially sealed will be far more efficient than a single layer.

Then you have water ingress into the roof (ie: bad thing).

As others have said, it's about insulation value.
  • The outer dome sits on top of the roof and gets screwed in and sealed. That leaves the insulation and ceiling cavity open to steam and moisture from the shower. The inside dome gets screwed to the interior ceiling and seals the ceiling cavity from moisture. Added benefits as noted above, the inside dome trims out the hole so it looks better from inside, and also traps a layer of air that helps insulate.
  • Besides the answers above, it is used to hide the hole in the roof. Remove it and see if you like the look.

  • Insulation value with the air layer in between?? That may help keep heat and cold out. The single layer vent covers do not do a very good job of that.
