Shower door problem

I have an alignment issue with my shower door. As seen in this picture, the gap on the hinge side is much larger than on the latch side.

This causes the bottom of the door on the latch side to get stuck as shown here.

I believe the issue is caused by the glass panel that the hinge is attached to starting to pull away from the wall. As shown in this picture, it seems to be glued to the shower enclosure and there is noticeable flex when push on this section.

Here's a picture showing everything in context.

Any ideas on how to resolve this issue?

SEA is pretty good on customer service. Based on some posts I read last year I emailed them when the bottom seal tore on ours. They mailed me 2 replacements free of charge.

Same here, along with the instructions on re-aligning the door.

Remove the top screws on the left at the wall (leave one bottom screw in if it is close to the wall). Move the top as far as possible way from the wall, drill new pilot holes and put screws back in. If it is now aligned this may work for another couple years BUT it will start to sag again.
The next fix is to put something behind the bottom pivot like a pebble that is aprox 1/4" thick and using a screwdriver to push the door away put the pebble behind the sorry pivot. The flatter/squarer the pebble the better it will stay in place and the thicker the better if you can get it behind. I even drilled holes at the top pivot so I could pull that pivot back using wire but that fix was more trouble than it was worth.
  • I had the same issue. Took the door apart and like leeper, I put some wall anchors in with new screws. That tighten up the gap and looseness at the wall. I re-build the hinges using long stainless machine screws. That took the sloppiness out of the hing area. The door no longer catches on the bottom corner. Better than new.
  • I had the same problem. Solved it by remounting the panel to the wall you are talking about. That fixed it. Had to take out the glass panel from the wall mounted channel. The door has to come off also. It is do able.
  • bopp, thanks for posting the links. I got the exact same problem. :S
  • From the first picture I would estimate that the door is not hanging on all the hinges or one hinge is coming loose, the other is that the door frame is not square in relation to the glass, take a square and check the glass frame first that might point you in the direction to take to repair the door.

  • These things are put together with as few screws as possible. If you take the top piece off you will see how loose and sloppy they are. The glass is held into the frame by a silicone gasket that wedges into the aluminum. The door itself is held together by only 4 screws. The pictures really dont show your problem, but my guess you might find stripped screws causing the problem.
