Singing more praises for Mr. Clean Magic Eraser

It is without a doubt, I am an advocate for the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser for cleaning the awning! I've been singing this song for several years now. I know there may be easier ways to do it, but for longivity, to stunt mold and black from returning, I've found nothing beats Mr. Clean Magic Erasers. Simply make the sponge good and wet, wipe (do not scrub) a small section of the awning, and wipe dry with a dry towel. If it doesn't get it all, wipe (do not scrub) a second time and wipe with a dry towel. The results are amazing ... and LAST!

Now, I'm singing my song again, I have found Mr. Clean Magic Eraser works very well on the plastics on my camper too. Especially this year. We've had our camper 5 years now and this spring, it really started getting grey spots on the plastic trim pieces and the metal corners. Mr. Clean took all that off and made them look like new! A bit of black professional Rest-o-lium on the trailer frame and my camper looked brand new this last spring.

Now, fast forward a few more months. I've been parking the camper under a tree at home, and the weather conditions have all been just right. You guessed it. You guessed it, GREEN! Everywhere on that side of the camper, especially along that track where the rubber roof meets the side. My rubber roof comes over the side. That track where the screws are, with that white plastic cover strip turned brilliant sea-weed green.

Last night, I decided to clean that green out. It was looking horrible. When getting up there, I realized how hideous my roof looked too. Now, I've always been an advocate for using ONLY RV Rubber Roof cleaners, but I'm out of it. So, I made a good solution of Dawn dishwashing liquid and proceeded to clean with a brush that plastic (green colored) plastic trim. The brush and the Dawn did not cut it. So, I decided to try my old friend, Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.

And the results were unbelievable. Yes, that trim is plastic and it knocked all the "moss" right off. But then I noticed, where I wiped on the side of the rubber where the roof comes over the side ... oh my! It was removing dirt and grime and after spraying with the hose, it was WHITE!

Well .... long story short, I got the trim on both side of the camper nice and white again, AND about 1/2 of the entire roof cleaned ... with the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser! And ... it took no scrubbing, just simple wiping, and off came gobs of black and crud. Yes, it was a work, but the results are worth it.

Tonight (weather permitting), I'm going to finish the roof, and tomorrow, treat the roof with RV Rubber Roof Treatment. That stuff is amazing too to help protect the rubber.

So, once again, Mr. Clean Magic Eraser has surpassed my expectations. I've found it can used on anything, even the side of my camper. The secret is to simply wipe... and never push hard or scrub, and rinse well.

It works fantastic on wheel hubs, glass, plastics, metal, the awning, floors, the toilet, sinks, pots and pans (yes... you can scrub with it there), the shower walls, the bathtub, virtually .... anything.

OK. I am not getting to paid to sing the praises of Mr. Clean. I'm just passing on a "tip" if anyone wants to try it.

I know, there are probably 100 billion easier and faster ways to get the roof and awning clean, as has been discussed over and over and over on these forums, but if you've never tried it ... well .... why not give Mr. Clean a fair shake? See what happens?
  • It does do a pretty good job of removing the waterline marks on the pool in the spring when we open it.

I have to agree with the OP. I sometimes carry a small motorcycle (1972 Yamaha AT2 125 Enduro) on a rack on the back of my RV. Last year, it was tied down a bit close to the RV and the handlebar grip rubbed on the back of the RV, leaving a black scuff. Nothing seemed to touch it, not even a brillo type scrubbie with Bar Keeper's Friend. On a lark, I grabbed a Mr Clean Magic Eraser, wet it, and rubbed. The scuff immediately came off, with very little elbow grease and without any damage whatsoever on the surface of the RV. I subsequently went all the way around my rig, touching up small stains and scuffs here and there. Fantastic! I put a couple in my storage compartment for future use!

When my wife saw that I'd bought it, she asked me why. She said she tried it years ago and it just didn't work at all.

    YMMV.

That has been our experience also.
Maybe it only works as well as one believes it will work? :@
  • I've had similar experience to Dutchman sport with the magic eraser. And for the awing Magic eraser makes a floor squeeze mop with a handle that does magic on the awning. probably would do the same on roof's or any large surface.

BTW magic eraser is malamine foam. Remember to old melamine dinnerware that was indestructable? or formica laminate? Guess they found another use for the stuff.

Magic eraser abrasive properties are similar to about 5000 grit wet/dry sandpaper. However the abrasive is not near as hard as wet/dry paper so it doesn't harm harder surfaces as easily.

  • yup, they work.
But, you can make your own very easily and inexpensively:
    • sponge
    • borax
    • baking soda

    Or even easier:
    • sponge
    • Commit Cleanser w/bleach
  • Gotta agree on the Magic Eraser. I too have used it on the plastics such as light trims, vent, etc. and it removes the yellow nicely. I've used it on various things, but won't use it on my gel coat in large areas, small scuffs yes, but that's it. Will the abrasive material in the eraser harm the TPO or rubber roof?
