Amen, I agree and thank you . - Cloud_DancerExplorer IIIt's starting to look like we are waking up to the fact that the future of the planet is in the hands of all the teenagers.....(after the death of the present one-or-two generations).
- DSDP_DonExplorerFor anyone who thinks we should lower our standards and look the other way at drug use, financial issues etc.....how about you start by hiring them to babysit your grandkids!

Hopefully you didn't notice our troops guarding the poppy fields of Afghanistan or the plane loads of pot coming into the country in military aircraft or the bodies of vets who were returned home stuffed full of drugs. Yes indeed fight the phony war with the blood of our sons and daughters while the system profits. With the damage I have seen done in 40 years between alcohol and pot, you would ban alcohol in a heartbeat. There are followers and there are people who think and question things.
I have a constant neck/headache and dont medicate it with pot or the prescription drugs that can cause a heart attack or holes in the stomach but I'm sure I'm branded now too. Did you hear that they used to burn people at the stake because they claimed to have visions? Funny thing is that they now have used the same type of person to help the police solve crimes. I dont know what they are called but they have visions. Also too bad about all those who met an early demise at the hands of the zealots because they thought the earth was round. Go figure. - 4X4DodgerExplorer II

If you are in the market for a job, and you are aware that there is a possibility of a pre-employment drug test, maybe you should cut back til you have a job, just sayin. Most companies don't make a secret of drug testing, (Home Depot has a sign on the main entrance doors to their store), old school it was did you show up for the interview in a suit, did you have a pen, did you have your references and previous employers on a piece of paper so you were prepared to fill out the application. New school is are you smart enough to keep clean for a couple weeks so you can pass the pee test.
This is a common misconception. the markers they test for for Marijuana last for months, not weeks.
The logic that is used in so many posts here is very shaky:
One; that if you are using marijuana or a recreational club drug on the weekend as so many young kids do that this means you are addicted and use constantly. There is just nothing that supports that.
Two: Pre Employment Drug Screens keep your employees from using drugs after employment.
Pre employment drug screens only keep people from being employed. Unless a company conducts regular random drug testing of ALL employees all of the time then the Pre Employment drug screen does almost nothing in terms of ensuring that your employees are not using anyway. (And many are)
Three: Background Checks work at keeping bad people out. False. Many insurance companies (who are the main drivers behind the background check craze)have taken background check results to extremes. In many cases now if you have ever bounced a check it may or in some cases result in denial of employment. This is madness. Further in some places if your CREDIT SCORE is bad that keeps you out. If you are behind on your child suport payments, the list of absurdity goes on. It's not about just theft from employers.
One of the main problems I see is the trend to use computerized applications, tests and background checks in lieu of actually sitting down with someone and interviewing. the de-personalization of the hiring process is hurting the chances of many who dont do well with tests and computers or have other minor issues in their lives but might make really good employees.
Lastly I am willing to bet that among all the self rightousness that I read here on this subject there is not a one of you you hasnt at one time stolen something from an employer or at one time or another in your life used a recreational drug. I will also bet that many of you drink to excess at times. People in glass houses....
Well now you went and did it. You brand yourself as one of those "dope heads". Yes siree they knew it all a long that yer onea them types. Learn to goose step and take marching orders or stay the heck out of here. ;)
LOL yep That trend is always with us isnt it?
And to think I have held three of the highest level security clearances this country can bestow two for the DoD and one for the DoE and have been drug tested for much of my working life. :) - 4X4DodgerExplorer II

It still amazes me about the amount of people that applies in my department at work and can't pass a drug screen. Just had a 60 y/o woman that couldn't pass her drug screen. :h
I guess I'm too old fashioned and I don't give them enough time to study for the test....:h
So she was involved in an accident or poor performance or what?
I of course do not know the particulars of this womans test. And under the rules of drug testing neither should you unless you are part of the human resources dept or her direct supervisor. Even then it is unethical to divulge the REASON for the failure. Or even that she failed.
But consider this. A 60 year old woman may be taking a combination of prescription drugs that may cause a test failure or confusion or lead to a false positive. In addition she may be taking a marijuana derivative (legal in many states) for severe pain, cancer or other medical reasons.) Do you really think she should lose her job because of this?
This is what I mean when I say that Zero Tolerance has no place in our system. There are just too many variables and too many false positives. You can only have an ethical Zero Tolerance policy if you have ZERO mistakes by the system. And that is never going to happen. - azrvingExplorer

So she made it through the process up to that point? Maybe she uses for a medical issue? - azrvingExplorer
