If your camper is new you have no reason to mess, adjust, or attempt to change anything on the slides. They "should" be working properly. Make sure they work properly when you have your pre-delivery walk-through inspection with the dealer. He'll also explain how the slides work.
If you are getting a used camper and the slides are not working properly.... well.... just run! and save yourself the headache. You won't miss anything.
I've had my Outback for 5 years and have never....never.....never had to touch anything to adjust them. I figure if I try to tweek anything on them, I'll probably screw them up so bad, they'll be beyond repair and probably never work correct again.
If it ain't broke ... don't fix it!
Some slides can be walked on while retracted. Evidently according to these forums, some slides cannot. But if your slides have the refrigerator, cabinets, and stove built in them, you won't be walking on them retracted anyway.
Slides work just fine .... ONLY when you don't mess them.
If something is broken, then you've got another issue.
