How far south does one need to be to normally avoid freezing temperatures? Is San Antonio far enough? TIA

Get down south of San Antonio.
My first winter near College Station was chillingly cold. Not that the temperature got really cold but rather it was cold and humid a lot. The next winter was lots better but the locals said it was abnormally warm. We hit 21F the winter of 2015.
