Snowbirding in Texas

How far south does one need to be to normally avoid freezing temperatures? Is San Antonio far enough?

TIA
  • stayed in Oak Harbor Wa never snowed, froze two nights (28 degree) but dark at 4:30 PM dawn at 8:00AM.
  • I 2nd Yuma .

Other then dust and rocks, what else is out there? OP is asking about SA for a reason.

For me, I never was much for wintering at the cross roads of "no" and "where."
  • Met a couple in Arizona a year ago. They were looking for consistently warm weather. They had started in florida, not good enough ; went to RGV, not good enough; went to tucson, not good enough; friend and i suggested they try yuma as we had also been to all those places and if you want consistently warm weather that is about the only place you will find it.
  • did Myrtle beach SC last winter.. 45 and rain is still cold.. snowed 1 night. froze water lines 7 times.

going to Mission Texas... near McAllen. for 5 months.
No more COLD. I can turn on a second Fan. :)
  • We winter Rio Grand Valley, never believed in doing half a job!!! It might be fine up north but to me 8-10 warmer is worth going to the Valley
  • If your goal is just to avoid freezing then draw a line from Corpus Christi to SA. Much more then 50+ miles above you can get some freezing nights.

With that said you'll find people who snowbird in Hill Country and places like Galveston Island all winter. Others will land in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area even.

Many think you have to go to the very bottom of Texas for a nice warm winter. That simply is not true. In the months of Jan/Feb that may be true, but it can get pretty hot those other months where a place like SA would be wonderful.
